Refundable Core Deposit
What is a Refundable Core Deposit?
Refundable core deposits, also known as core charges, are often mandated by state legislatures. As a result, many automotive parts, including batteries, have a refundable core deposit or core price. A refundable core deposit promotes recycling by charging you a deposit when you purchase a product and then you receive your deposit back when you return that product (or a materially similar product in an undamaged condition.)
When you purchase a battery on our site, you will be charged a price for such product that does not include a refundable core deposit. When you pick up the product at the store location identified on your receipt, the store will charge you a refundable core deposit unless you have a materially similar product to provide the store at the time of pickup or install.
For purchased batteries that are installed in your vehicle at the time of pickup, you will not be charged a refundable core deposit as long as you provide the store with the used battery that is being replaced. If, however, you do not have a materially similar product to provide at the time of pickup or install, the store will charge a refundable core deposit.

Any estimated refundable core deposit listed on this site is for informational purposes only and is an estimate provided as a convenience to you. The estimated refundable core deposit does not reflect (and is not intended to reflect) the actual refundable core deposit that may be charged by a store at the time of product pickup or install. Any actual refundable core deposit and taxes on the charge may vary depending on the state in which you buy your part and the store at which you pick up your part. Neither Interstate Batteries, Inc. nor any of its subsidiaries or affiliates (“Interstate”) guarantee or warrant that the estimated refundable core deposit stated on this site is an accurate representation of the refundable core deposit that may be assessed by the applicable store, and Interstate expressly disclaims all liability and responsibility for any such refundable core deposit(s).
Here's How the Refundable Core Deposit Works:
- The part you are purchasing contains a component that is recyclable.
- The refundable core deposit is charged at the time you have your product installed or picked up from the store location identified on your receipt (unless you provide a materially similar product in an undamaged condition to the store at the time of pickup or install.)
- When the recyclable component from your old part (or a materially similar part in an undamaged condition) is returned to the store location identified on your receipt, the charge is refunded to you by the store location identified on your receipt.
The refundable core deposit will be charged by the store location identified on your receipt. Any refunds for such refundable core deposit(s) will be refunded by the store location identified on your receipt.
To Receive Your Refundable Core Deposit Refund:
Bring the part (or a materially similar product in an undamaged condition) to the store location identified on your receipt along with your receipt or packing slip.
Each store reserves the sole right to accept or reject any used or returned product you provide to such store to receive a refundable core deposit refund.
